A couple of years back, when I didn't know him, I used to file my tax return through a renowned CA of Panchkula. Once he made some error while filing my tax return, resulting in IT department sending me a notice, imposing a penalty of Rs. 1.10 lakh. It was like something out of blue for me. I showed that notice to my CA, but he couldn't tell anything. I met another CA, he asked me to bring my previous 3-4 years' form-16 and IT acknowledgement. But after charging Rs. 1000, he also couldn't understand the reason. Meanwhile, I had received another notice, asking me to deposit penalty. I was absolutely clueless.

That's when one of my Vardhman colleague asked me to meet Mr. Narula. Reluctantly, I went to see him, taking my previous years' return files and both notices. But, believe me, Mr. Narula took hardly 10 minutes to point out the mistake.

Actually, I had switched my job the previous year, resulting in having two form-16 from different employers. My CA, while filing return, had mistakenly interchanged both PANs. Mr. Narula took another 10 minutes to file my revised return, and everything got settled. I got a clean chit from tax authorities, and also got a very good, trustworthy financial planner on that day.

Gem of a person, very focused, dedicated and sincere fellow.

Suresh has been my FP for almost 7 year now, he keeps himself updated with the latest development in wealth management, products and services. The returns from the investments he had, though recommended have been good. Hello! All, I am one of the one (DIY) client. But there is a long story behind.....which I would like to share. Hope it serves a lesson for others.

1) I used to work in Oil and Gas industry, and was well paid. I wanted to quit the Oil and Gas career, but wanted to be financially sound enough before that step, hence I started looking for a good financial advisor.

2) I decided to go with Sureshji (back in 2013),our first meeting lasted 3 hrs

3) He made a very good plan, and we decided to stick to it (but I half my doubts, I didn't want to trust someone 100% regarding the money matters

4) to cut short the story, I denied Sureshji's advice 3 times....on big amounts, and I getting punished for those mistakes till date

5) First mistake: as per plan, house was supposed to be bought in 2016, but because I had spare money, I purchased under construction flat in 2014, not completed till date

6) I have been managing my own debt portfolio, (assuming debt funds are relatively safe, and I frequently redeem/purchase funds as per need, anyhow the corpus kept on increasing with time). Second mistake: Sureshji advised to quit Franklin Templeton back in November ( at that time XIRR on my debt portfolio was 9.73%) I ignored (being stubborn). Hence happened Vodafone fiasco and overnight return came down to 2.24%

7) Sureshji, advised to quit Franklin altogether.... I pulled out 80% of it, still kept 20% because I had to pay for a machine to help my father (related to business) in March 2020. But because of Covid the machine got delayed and my machine is ready now for despatch, but Franklin Templeton froze the remaining amount....so I got hit for third time.

Had I adhered to Sureshji's advice, my portfolio would have been more than double the size it is today. Having said that, I agree I am a cynical, and a big one. Sureshji's advice may taste bitter at the time it strikes your ear, but it serves as antidote at the time of need.
